Your Career in Nuclear Medicine

The future is bright thanks to:

  • New Radiopharmaceuticals
  • Research and development of cancer-detecting and cancer-killing agents
  • Expanded use of new and unique means of studying biochemistry and metabolism within living tissue

  • Nuclear medicine technologists perform diagnostic and some treatment procedures by acquiring images that help identify the nature of a disease and how it affects the body. New advances in nuclear medicine keep our Nuclear Medicine Departments on the cutting edge of technology. A career in Nuclear Medicine with Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, Inc. (SSHFS), offers not only professional development opportunities, but opportunities for personal commitment and service to others.

The technologist's role at Sisters of St. Francis Health Services facilities includes preparing and administering radioactive chemical compounds, performing patient imaging procedures, computer processing and image enhancement, analyzing biologic specimens and providing images, data analysis and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.

Patient care is also a part of the nuclear medicine technologist's responsibility, monitoring the patient's physical condition during the course of the procedure and noting patient comments that might be useful to the physician in interpreting the results.

Technologists also work in conjunction with X-ray, CT Scan, MRI and Ultrasound, providing staff with the opportunity to learn about other imaging modalities and work with a variety of professionals.

Our focus on compassionate care, our commitment to the ongoing ministry of healing, and our Franciscan values, all make nuclear medicine at SSFHS a special and rewarding career. If your personal philosophy fits with our view of healthcare and you would like further information on how you, as a professional Nuclear Medicine Technologist, can become part of the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services team, please contact us.
